2005 Mustang DiabloSport Predator Revision = Update

In order to do a update your Predator to the latest revision, = please=20 follow the instructions below. If you have any questions = concerning=20 any of the below directions, please feel free to contact us.

Required Items=20

1: Serial Cable:
Standard straight-through DB9 = (9-pin=20 to 9-pin) RS232C serial cable (6 foot cable is more than = enough). =20 Check your computer to see if you have a male or a female port on = the=20 back, as some are different. You will need a male end to go = into=20 your Predator.

(Radio Shack Part # 26-117, 6-ft DB9 male to DB9 female = shielded=20 cable.)

2: Power Adapter:
CLASS 2 TRANSFORMER
OUTPUT = : 12VDC=20 1000mA (1 Amp)

(Radio Shack Part # 273-1776)
Note: Plug Tip=20 is 2.5mm x 5.5mm, female, and center is positive.

Radio Shack normally carries both of these items. Most = Wal-Marts=20 have the Power Adapter (multi output version).

Note: If you have a laptop, you can use the = vehicle's=20 power to power up the Predator, instead of using a Power Adapter, = and just=20 do the following with your laptop and Predator inside of your = vehicle.

How to Download the Necessary = Files from the=20 Internet=20

First download/save the=20

Windows based = DSdownloader=20 Rev.1.2.6.0=20

to your PC directory. (The = DSDownloader=20 is a Windows based PC software allowing you to update your = Predator with a=20 newer software release).
Next save the update file Pre= dator=20 Ford 2005 Stang DiabloSport r21 by right-clicking and choosing = "Save=20 Link Target As". You might want to choose the same directory as = for the=20 downloader program.=20

How to Update your = Predator=20

Step 1: VERY IMPORTANT!!!

You MUST return your vehicle to the factory calibration = before=20 proceeding further. Per the instructions, on your Predator's = main=20 menu, please go to "Options, Troubleshooting, Restore Original = Backup",=20 and follow through the prompts. This will restore the = Original=20 Backup into the pcm.

Step 2: Hook your Predator up to your PC via = the=20 Serial Cable. IMPORTANT: Power the Predator on via = the=20 power adapter.

Step 3: Open up=20 your Ford Predator DSDownloader software (DSDownloader.exe) = on your=20 PC, click "The second tab on (Revision Update) then click on = "Update=20 Software in Predator"Program to Ford Predator", point = the "Open,=20 Look in:" box to the directory where you have downloaded the = Update=20 file (the "Desktop" was recommended earlier), click on the = file, and=20 then select "Open". The Ford Predator DSDownloader = software=20 will now ask you to power cycle the Predator (remove power and = apply it=20 back on again) "You will see a communications window" which will = alert you=20 when complete.

Step 4: Plug This process takes approx. 2 to 5 = minutes,=20 depending on the speed of your PC. When done, it will state=20 "Download Complete". Click on "OK". Your Predator will = now=20 finish booting up. Once it fully boots up, take note of the = revision=20 #. It should now state "Predator v.8rXX", as this is the = latest=20 revision currently released by DiabloSport. If you have made = it to=20 this point without any issues, please continue to "Step 5" further = below. If you are having issues, please see the "Note" = directly=20 below.

Note: If you encounter time outs, or if you = aren't=20 getting any communication between the computer and = Predator, or if=20 your Predator just boots up fully to the main screen without = attempting to=20 update, you may need to set your Ford Predator Downloader = software, the=20 Predator, and your Computer to all be on the same settings (COM = selection=20 & Baud Rate), and/or you may be using the wrong COM port (if = you have=20 more than one). Please follow the directions below to set up = your=20 COM selections & Baud Rates, but only if you are having issues = with=20 communication.

Computer: To check what COM port your computer is = using=20 (COM1, 2, 3, 4, etc.), go "right click" on "My Computer" and hit=20 "Properties", then click on "Hardware", then "Device Manager", = then click=20 on the "+" sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)". It will = tell you=20 out next to "Communications Port" what your COM port setting is = (ex: =20 COM1). Go ahead and "double click" on "Communications Port", = then=20 click on the "Port Settings" tab at the top. Please attempt = to try=20 115200 for a baud rate setting first.

Software: Open the Ford Predator DSDownloader = software=20 (DSDownloader.exe) on your computer, go to "Port Settings", and = ensure=20 that the proper COM port is selected to match what COM port that = your=20 computer is using, as well as matching up the baud rate (default = on the=20 software is 115200). Please attempt to try 115200 for a baud = rate=20 setting first.

Predator: You can change the Predator's baud rate = by going=20 from the Predator's main menu to "Options, Serial Baud". = Default on=20 the Predator is 57600 with 115200 as an option. Please = attempt to=20 try 115200 for a baud rate setting first.

Step 5: You may now install the Predator's tuning = into=20 your vehicle as you normally would using the instructions that = came with=20 your Predator.
