The second Modification made was on Friday. Web Electric Sequential lights were installed This mod involved the removal of the tail lights and modification of the wiring harness.
Web Electric Sequential lights Ordered 4/24 from Ebay at $69.99 including shipping
The next set of modifications would be electrical. First was the engine start button. This involved the removal of the stock cigarette lighter on the dash and the installation of an engine start button. The button installed is the same one used on the Honda S2000.
Ordered from HandA-accessories.com for $40.43 including shipping/handling
A Trunk Release button was also added the same day. A push button Momentary contact switch form Radio shack was used. Total cost $1.97

Antenna Delete + Amplified interior antenna
To get rid of the antenna completely, I used an Metra UA-205 amplified interior antenna. This type of antenna mounts on the top of the windshield. A stranded ground strap must be connected to a good chassis ground. Power from the radio is required for the antenna. Use the grey wire on Pin2 of the J1 connector on the Shaker 500. This provides power from the Acc and the power stays on as long as the radio is does. Approximate cost $20
Later, I had the antenna hole welded and painted - See paint scheme below

The following day was a Sunday, time to work on the engine. My son and I installed the C&L Mass Air Flow system, the Red Line hood struts and tuned the engine with a Diablo Predator. Notice that the C&L rubber hoses are red. They are reversible. The default color is Blue, but it you turn them inside out, they turn red. Also, notice the pony on the strut towers. That was part of the Xenon Decal set that was used on the calipers.
The JET Powr-flo Throttle body spacer was installed later. It provided more torque on the low end and eliminated the notorious throttle lag.

The crank shaft pulley proved to be too difficult to remove so the MotoBlue ‘Underdrive Pulley installation would have to be put off to another day.

Painted Caliper and Door Sills:
This project took about 2 hours to complete. The hardest part was removing all 4 wheels. With the left over paint, we painted the IUP door sills

While the Caliper paint was drying, My son installed the Tribar Spinners. I found them on Ebay for $69.95. These are like the Original tribar spinners that come on the V6 premium package but instead of having the blue ford oval, they have the classic tri-bar pony design. They are made of Chrome plated plastic. They pop-off and can be easily stolen, so to secure them, we used a 2.5" brass sliding closet door circular handle. IT fits inside the spinner and has to be installed from behind the wheel. Now there is no way of removing the spinner without taking the wheel off first.
BRS parts have a better quality product made of aluminum, but they are much more expensive. they start at $199

Spinners Ordered 4/24 from Ebay at $75 including shipping
Dash kit upgrade:
A Stainless Dash kit was ordered but I did not install all of the pieces. I thought it was a tad much, so I only installed certain pieces. I wound up removing the radio cover and the cover around the window switches. The final install included the 3 piece console cover , the light switch, the center console and the 2 door handle covers.
Real brushed Aluminum Dash kit -15 piece kit Ordered from AutoAccesoryStore.com for $156 including tax and shipping
Billet AC knobs
and door pins:
These were ordered with red lenses but the lights are green, so you can not see the lens illuminate. I removed the lenses and now you can see the green glow from behind. Anyone ordering these should make sure to order them with green lenses.

This is the Ford Plenum cover available as an option on 2007 mustangs. It is part of the GT appearance package. I ordered it directly from a Ford dealer as soon as it started shipping. I had to remove the Throttle body spacer and use 6mm studs in the top 2 throttle body bolt holes.

Ordered 6/21/2006 received and installed 7/21/2006.
ordered from Frodparts.com , $56 including shipping
Ford GT/CS Side Scoops:
These scoops are the same ones used on the Shelby GT/CS ad the Hertz Shelby. I was lucky enough to buy them the day before Ford raised their prices. I purchased them directly from a Ford dealer.

Purchased July 21, 2006, painted and installed August 11, 2006
Scoops $90 painting $100
Granatelli Strut bar brace and Modified Plenum cover:
I ordered the Granatelli strut bar brace but after installing it, it almost rubbed the top of the Plenum cover. About this time, I had missed the performance of the throttle body spacer so I decided it was time to modify the plenum cover. I cut the front of the plenum cover and attached some plastic clips with epoxy to the cover, then I used a ty-wrap to hold the front down. I removed the two grommets in the rear of the cover and removed the studs on the rear of the plenum, then I installed the cover and re-installed the two studs. Now the clearance between the strutbar and the plenum cover is over 1/2" and I am able to use my throttle body spacer again.
I ordered a pair of strut bar cover disks for $4.99 on Ebay. These are just black disks with a hole in the center that covers the strut tower hole. I painted them Torch red.

Granatelli STB purchased 8/24 - $66 shipped
Strut Bar Cover - $4.99
Plenum cover modification - $5 in parts
Hurst Shifter Knob -
I purchased this Hurst T-Handle shifter knob from Auto Zone for $14.99. It is a universal fit and has an adaptor to fit the stock Mustang shifter. I wanted the shifter bar to show but it was black and not very atteractive. I wanted the shifter to be chrome reminiscent of vintage shifter handles. I bought a chrome 3" plumbing nipple and cut it to size to fit over the stock shifter. I then inverted the shifter boot and placed a rubber band around it. When it is flipped aound, the shifter boot fits snugly around the nipple.
Purchased and installed Septermber 4th-2006
Shifter handle - $14.99
Chrome Nipple $3.99

The stock Ford valve cover (or Cam Covers) are unfinished and look very ugly only to tarnish and look uglier with age. I removed the covers and was going to get them powder coated but for some reason this is very expensive. While others on the forums were getting theirs painted for about $100, in NY it costs over $200 to get them powder coated.
As an option, I decided to paint them for now. If the paint flakes off or does not last, I will order a set from Ford racing.
The toughest part of this job was deciding what color to paint them. I decided to go with a Gold to match the valve covers from the Mustangs of the late 60s. I cleaned the valve covers using Mother's aluminum polish and then primed it with Etching Engine primer. This was followed by 4 coats of gold paint. I attached Ford Racing decals and then gave it 3 coats of Engine clear enamel.

Fast Toys 4" slant cut Muffler Tips
As far as I'm concerned, the sound of the Stock GT mufflers on a manual equipped car is just right (the mufflers on the manual shift cars have a deeper note then those on the automatics). Changing just the mufflers does not provide a significant performance increase and driving with the top down, you don't want the car to be any louder. In my opinion, the only added benefit of the aftermarket mufflers was the look of the larger tips. They filled the exhaust cutout on the muffler and the rolled tip looks more properly finished. The mirror like finish is also an added improvement.
I was lucky to be selected as a test fitter for this product just had to pay for shipping.
Fast Toys - $N/A+20 for shipping
Ordered 1/15/07, installed 1/27/07
This is a simple and inexpensive mod. The extruded door welt in silver satin compliments the IUP interior

Future
Mods
The following mods are planned, I still have to decide.
Steeda Tri-ax Shifter
![]() |
![]() |
The Steeda tri-ax shifter has been rated as the best aftermarket shifter. It significantly reduces the travel distance between shifts and provides a much firmer feel. There's no missing third with this one. I'd also like to replace the stock shifter knob with a classic white ball knob. The shifter on the 05 mustang is different then in past years. It uses a 12mm 1.75 thread.
The shifter ball is about $30
